Cyber Jobs in High Demand
Educating the Next Cybersecurity Warriors
Given the numerous data breaches at major retailers and financial institutions, it should come as no surprise that cybersecurity is – and will continue to be for years to come – one of the most in-demand sectors of the job market. In fact, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that IT Security Specialist employment will explode by 37 percent by 2022, over 3-times faster than the 11 percent average for all occupations. In response to market demand, Webster University now offers both a master’s degree in Cybersecurity and a graduate certificate in Cybersecurity Threat Detection.
“There is a clear need for skilled people who know how to manage and lead projects involving cybersecurity,” explained Tom Johnson, cybersecurity program lead and chief of strategic initiatives for Webster University. “By focusing on the management level, Webster University’s programs prepare students for demanding cybersecurity leadership and management positions in the public and private sectors.”
Master of Science in Cybersecurity
Graduates of the master’s degree program receive training in cybersecurity practices, information protection, terrorism, fraud, theft, intelligence, counterintelligence, digital forensics, and pre-emptive and strategic force operation application situations. Upon completion of the program, students will be well-versed to apply their knowledge and critical thinking related to domestic and international legal systems, private and public policies and ethics as they relate to cybersecurity.
Graduate Certificate in Cybersecurity Threat Detection
This 12 credit-hour certificate focuses on the knowledge and tools necessary to address the increasing demand on corporate and governmental organizations to improve the security of their “cyber content.” Courses in the certificate program provide professionals with an understanding of current cybersecurity threats, the phraseology and terminology used in the sector, as well as the various roles, responsibilities and tools related to detection of cyber threats.
